What is OSCAR?
The OSCAR Foundation is a non-profit organization. It is a football for development non-profit dedicated to empowering children and youth in low-income communities in India.OSCAR uses football as a tool to deliver education and life skills sessions enabling children and youth to become role models in their community. Over the last 9 years, more than 12000+ children and youth in India have joined OSCAR’s Football, Education, and Young Leaders’ Program. Their visions is "a world where all children and youth have an equal opportunity to succeed."
Summary
Creating travel opportunities, inspiring and motivating OSCAR girls and boys is at the core of OSCAR's work and we are delighted to announce the first ever OSCAR USA Tour. Aanya Shah, Director of IYLC, has been organizing the tour, navigating huge challenges such as passports and visas. Owning a passport, traveling in a plane, and making friends with kids from vastly different backgrounds is a dream come true for not only the child, but their family and wider community.
Challenge
OSCAR children come from the most marginalized communities in India. Daily challenges create enormous stress on parents and children are all too often forced to drop out of school to take up poorly paid jobs to contribute to the family income. Most OSCAR parents did not have the privilege of an education and struggled to understand the long-term gain of encouraging their kids to stay in school. Motivating and mentoring OSCAR kids is key. "We have one simple rule, No School, No Football." says Ashok Rathod, Founder of OSCAR
Solution
Creating life changing overseas opportunities for OSCAR girls and boys inspires and motivates them to stay in education, work hard and believe in their dreams. The OSCAR International Tours demonstrate that travel educates, inspires and encourages beneficiaries to raise their game. The Alumni of OSCAR Tours are testament to the benefits.
Long-Term Impact
The OSCAR USA tour creates a platform for youth from both India and the USA to be part of a global community, to learn from each other and befriend their peers irrespective of nationality, religion, gender, caste or class. Students from the USA engage with disadvantaged OSCAR kids and collaborate in educational and cultural workshops, football training and share in life's challenges and successes. The long-term impact creates global citizens who learn to work together for a better life for all.
Memories from the Tour!
